A Way Out: A Grass Roots Business (Ebonni Bryant)

November 9, 2011 by · 3 Comments

Every business you have come to support and admire was once a “grass roots” business. In this episode, Jory and I show not only business owners, but also lovers and spectators of economic sustainability and growth, how to thrive. I describe ways to implement tangible business strategies into your business that also build your community. I tell my clients, “You know everyone you need to know in order for your business and community to be a success.” I explain how we can do this and why you care. The show touches on my story and how I came to be the carrier of this business. I use the example of Henry Ford. He envisioned a company with all of these different parts that eventually create a functioning car. The work I do brings together all of the many moving parts of a business to create an integrated, sustainable entity and from there we can evolve your business. Jory and I also talk about the overall vision of Bryant NE and how its impact can change your community.

About Ebonni Bryant

Biographies are sometimes in the 3rd person. I find it more personal to speak to you as I am. My name is Ebonni Bryant and I am a business owner. I am on this path because I have felt this push, like someone or something was pushing my back, to go down this road. This road has not always felt welcoming. I have wanted to run back. I have wanted to walk on someone else’s road and yet here I am helping communities see the value of business. These businesses are local. They are regional. They are national. And in some way, each business has a great purpose. I am here to drag that purpose up to the surface and have it serve the people within it and the people looking in. When a business is doing its best job, everything that touches it has been made better. Through marketing, communications, creative development, and accountability practices, Bryant NE shows business how to move, integrate, and serve. Let’s move together!

Ebonni’s Success Tips

1.) Remember who you are has nothing to do with what you do.
2.) If you are awkward, be awkward, people love that. If you are frank, be frank, it works. Those things about yourself that seem to drive people batty is the very thing that creates a more fulfilling life.
3.) Acting as if those little secrets or idiosyncrasies are not a great part of you is you missing the mark. Bring them into the fold. Don’t sell a concept, talk honestly and openly about who you are. It works!
4.) Everyone you have ever known holds the key to your business success.

Ebonni’s Favorite Quote

“I took a leap of faith and began a journey through a passage that was so narrow, I could not take any baggage – any pride, doubt, fear or woudedness with me.” -Anonymous

STARTALK (Dr. Najoua Hotard)

October 26, 2011 by · 1 Comment

Our guest Najoua Hotard will share information about language and culture programs, primarily STARTALK, that empower youth and educators throughout the country. She will also discuss her own faith journey: “God has brought STARTALK to allow me to experience a learning journey that keeps on giving. It connected me with youth endowed with a passion for opening their hearts and minds to other cultures. It also connected me with people whose spirituality changed the course of my life and brought me closer to God.” In recent months, the scope of the STARTALK program has taught Najoua that God always provides the strength she needs to overcome problematic issues. She hopes this discussion will encourage schools and individuals to offer programs like STARTALK in their own communities so our youth will be properly equipped to become global citizens and leaders who can change the world through humanity and cultural understanding.

Click to find out more about STARTALK.

About Dr. Najoua Hotard

Najoua Hotard, Ph.D. is  the President and Founder of the Institute of Critical Languages and Cultural Exchange, Inc. (I.C.L.C.E.) in Baton Rouge Louisiana.

She is an educator with 23 years experience. Since 2007, Najoua has focused her energies on providing federally funded critical language programs, namely STARTALK, to youth and professionals in the United States.

Throughout her journey as a teacher, she has firmly believed her strength comes from God’s guidance to help youth from all backgrounds become leaders. Under Najoua’s direction, I.C.L.C.E. implemented the STARTALK grant for 2008, 2009, and 2011. Najoua is actively engaged in the National Council for International Visitors (NCIV), the New Orleans Citizen Diplomacy Council, the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), and several other professional and community-based governmental and professional groups.

Najoua’s Success Tip

Any business involves hard work and sometimes growing pain. Having faith in God’s power and mercy and keeping a positive upbeat lessens the difficulties. When I started the business, I tended to be impatient and had a sense of urgency to achieve success.  STARTALK program has brought me blessings in the sense that it taught me how to regain my spiritual strength.  It brought my way young people eager to learn and become global citizens, as well as team members and friends ready to lend a hand at anytime.  Like my dear Sarita Mehta said, one has to free the mind from the negative and focus on bringing hope and peace to every action we do. She told me once that we push the button on a phone and we can reach someone fast.  God is always there.  We just have to learn how to talk to him and it is not that difficult.  As you see businesses or programs , small or big become meaningful when they bring about change and empowerment through great human beings we meet.

Najoua’s Favorite Quote

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the World: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has. ~ Margaret Mead

When it comes to having your business online, you’ll find tons of confusing, complex and often conflicting information. And most techie people are no help because they can’t speak to you in language you understand.

Well, this is about to change. Dawud Miracle has spent the past 14 years helping people just like you get online without all the overwhelm. That’s exactly what we’ll be talking about October 12th…

About Dawud Miracle

Dawud’s Success Tips

Love what you do and do what you love

Don’t let your ideas, beliefs or fears about technology, computers or the web get in the way. promise you, it’s easier than it seems if you have the right guide.

You don’t need to do it all. Find 3 or 4 things you can do consistently and you’ll be successful.

Make sure you have some way of measuring your efforts. While it’s not the sexy part of business, being able to measure what’s working (and what’s not) is usually a major difference between those who are successful and those who aren’t.

Dawud’s Favorite Quotes

Whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t, you’re right.  ~Henry Ford

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I have not lived.  ~Thoreau

Success doesn’t come to you – you go to it.  ~ Marva Collins

Yes, You Really Are Worth It! (Coach Jenn Lee)

October 5, 2011 by · 3 Comments

Women tend to attach their personal value to their various roles, positions in community and church, and business success. They pride themselves in using their God-given talents and strengths to serve and bless others–exactly how He intended. This is all well and good until that woman transitions into creating her own source of income. Many entrepreneurial women have a tough time “valuing” themselves in the form of money, frequently undervaluing their products or services or giving too much away for free. Why? We will discuss this scary phenomenon and provide a different point of view to making money, one that still supports how God intended you to use your gifts!

About Coach Jenn Lee

Fed up, tired and just plain over the shortsighted and fear-based thinking of today’s American culture, Life and Small Business Coach Jenn Lee is helping Americans shift their thinking, boldly move forward, and bring sanity back into their everyday lives! Proud to say she’s not your typical saccharin-laced advisor (and drawing inspiration from a 25 year coaching and sales background, hilarious childhood experiences and personal life twists and turns), she cleverly produces real-world and action-oriented strategies for men and women through her weekly MidWeek Mojo enewlsetter and BLOG. A real firecracker, Jenn is a regular correspondent for FOX Orlando “Good Day” Morning show and has been featured in publications like Redbook, Mom’s Like Me and Orlando Magazine.

Find out more about Jennifer at www.coachjennlee.com

Coach Jenn’s Success Tips

Be crazily committed to YOU!

No, is a complete sentence

You are not your role!

Coach Jenn’s Favorite Quote

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. ” ~ Marianne Williamson

Living with Courage (Margie Warrell)

September 28, 2011 by · 3 Comments

We live in turbulent times. Yet while fear is a powerful emotion, it doesn’t have to overpower our lives. To achieve the goals that inspire you, and to change those areas of your life that don’t, you must be willing to take new actions and embrace new possibilities. Wherever you are right now, however daunting your challenges or strong your fears, every day provides fresh opportunities to learn, grow, and start anew in living more courageously.

Your future is still unwritten. What will determine the story you write will be the choices you make, minute-by-minute, day-by-day, to risk vulnerability and to dare to impact the world in ways that only you can do. What will it take? Courage. Courage to think bigger, to challenge the status quo, to seize the opportunity in your adversity, and to answer the question “What would I do if I were being courageous?” Right now is the perfect time to step forward in the direction your answer beckons. Life rewards action. Live Boldly!

Suffering’s Joy (Cheryl Scanlan)

September 21, 2011 by · 6 Comments

Suffering’s purpose is often hidden behind a cloud of confusion about God’s character and His refinement process. We brace ourselves against future suffering, cry through present pain, and heave sighs of relief post trauma. Is it possible there is a better way to face life’s trials?

Severe neurological Lyme and a metabolic disorder that went undiagnosed for ten years caused Cheryl to experience years of unnecessary and seemingly endless private suffering. The trials taught her much about the love of her heavenly Father. He supplied during times of need in ways Cheryl could not appreciate or understand during times of plenty.

Jesus’s earthly ministry included many miracles involving healing. Yet His message was much more profound than that of relief from physical pain. Often we look for escape from our circumstances while God is using the same to heal us at our core.

Join us on September 21st to hear about a journey through intense pain to a sweet place of contentment and joy.

About Cheryl Scanlan

Cheryl Scanlan, PCC, CPCC, began coaching in 2004 after a prolonged illness served as a Divine incubator growing a focused love for the Lord and His church body.

She was formerly president of a multi-million dollar firm in New York. After coming to know Christ while living in Florida, she later served as Women’s Minister and Care Director for a church of over 5000 in Raleigh, NC.

She combines strong business acumen with a passion for Christian coaching in order to facilitate the development of confident ambassadors for Christ in both ministry and the marketplace.

Cheryl’s passion is to see God’s people walk in step with Him. An ardent student of scripture, she is a trained Precept Bible Teacher and has studied God’s Word inductively for over 10 years.

Cheryl is married to Tom and has two teenage boys.

Cheryl’s Truths About Pain

1. Pain has a purpose

2. Pain is a people bonder

3. Pain keeps us aware of our humanness

4. Pain reminds us that we are not in charge

5. Pain permits others to learn how to minister

Cheryl’s Success Tips

When you get tired of reading about God, think about Him. When you get tired of thinking about Him, pray to Him. When you get tired of praying to Him, rest in Him.

When the fruit of the spirit seem to be drowned by toil, stife and striving ask – what are you telling yourself in that moment? Does it align with God’s truth? If not – take that thought captive to the obedience of Christ before taking another step.

Pray with one another first. Then talk to each other. You’ll find you have a lot less you need to say.

Consider your priorities. Let God sift your priorities. Then stick to those priorities.

Cheryl’s Favorite Quotes

“God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.” John Piper

“To learn strong faith is to endure great trials. I have learned my faith by standing firm amid severe testings.” George Mueller

“Bless you prison, bless you for being in my life. For there, lying upon the rotting prison straw, I came to realize that the object of life is not prosperity as we are made to believe, but the maturity of the human soul.” Aleksandr Solzhenitzyn (The Gulag Archipelago)
