Sugar Plums and Mangers

What young girl wouldn’t welcome a magical journey through the Land of Snow?  Where snowflakes turn into dancing maidens?  Where the Snow King and Queen usher us and our handsome Nutcracker Prince into the Land of Sweets, Mother Ginger, and the Sugar Plum Fairy?  Most of us relish our once-upon-a-time dreams, especially at this magical time of year.  Imagination is a wondrous thing!

Yet sometimes we tend to mix together what’s real and what isn’t.  As our kids get older, some of us parents hasten to say things like, “Um… well, yes, honey.  You’re right.  Santa Claus, elves, and reindeer don’t really fly through the air delivering toys to girls and boys; but the spirit of Santa Claus—the spirit of giving—is very much alive. THAT is what we celebrate!”  Other parents, for perfectly valid reasons, choose the less fanciful approach and focus solely on the celebration of Jesus’s birth – not on roly-poly Santas and skinny chimneys and half-drunken glasses of milk.

Whatever our tradition regarding Santa Claus, let’s focus on what truly matters:  that God loves us all so much that He sent His one and only Son to dwell among us—and to dwell within us.  That is what we celebrate as Christians.

Hear now the voice of Linus, a child created in the imagination of Charles Schultz, as he tells us the true source of our deepest joy.  From the Book of Luke, Chapter 2, Verses 8 – 14:

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them; and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, “Fear not:  for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.  And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,  “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will towards men.”

MERRY CHRISTMAS, everybody!  May we welcome God’s gift to us with open hearts, open souls, and open minds.

With love,

Overcoming Underearning… and then what? (Barbara Stanny)

September 14, 2010 by · 2 Comments

Do you chronically underestimate your earning potential?  Do you have a high tolerance for low pay?  Barbara Stanny, the Leading Authority on Women and Money, talks with Jory and Beth about the biggest mistake women make concerning money. Her five essential steps to financial independence bring a message of hope and empowerment to those who struggle with underearning.  Barbara also speaks to those of our listeners who sense there’s more to success than making lots of money.  She discusses how to merge a higher income with a higher calling and announces her brand new seminar, Sacred Success™.  Listen and learn how Barbara beautifully blends financial success with making a significant difference in the lives of others.

About Barbara Stanny

Barbara Stanny is a woman on a mission–a mission to motivate women to become financially empowered. Barbara grew up relying on her father (the ‘R’ of H&R Block), then her husband, to manage her money.  A devastating financial crisis became her wake-up call.  Her first book, Prince Charming Isn’t Coming, grew out of her interviews with financially savvy women. Her next two books, Secrets of Six Figure Women and Overcoming Underearning®, focused on  helping women go from financial survival to financial stability. Her current focus is on helping women move from stability to affluence with a new body of work she calls Sacred Success™.  Barbara defines Sacred Success™ as doing your Soul’s work for your own bliss and the benefit of others while being richly rewarded.

Barbara’s background in business, her years as a journalist, her Master’s Degree in psychology, her extensive research, and her personal experience with money give her a unique perspective and make her the foremost expert on women’s financial issues.

Barbara’s Coaching Suggestion

Barbara suggests that we think of our earliest memory of money and freeze it in our minds like a photograph.  Now ask:  what was going on in my life at that time?  The answer to that question will give us a wealth of information regarding our beliefs about money.

Barbara’s Quotes for the Day

“Go where you fear because that’s how you grow.”  ~Barbara Stanny

“The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”
~Frederick Buechner

Kim’s Coaching Suggestion

Kim offers us three steps to help us change our thinking.

1)      Recognize.  First, we should identify a false belief or negative thought we want to change.

2)      Renew.  Next we should write out God’s truth or principle on a 3X5 card.

3)      Rehearse.  Finally, we should read and pray this truth at least three times a day and be prepared to witness amazing results.

Transform Your Life by Transforming Your Beliefs (Lion Goodman)

July 20, 2010 by · 1 Comment

We’ve all heard the saying, “Our beliefs create our reality,” but what does this really mean?  Lion Goodman spent 35 years researching this question and proved it to be true. Then he developed a new methodology for actually changing beliefs, quickly and permanently. This has an immediate, profound impact on our life as we know it–and on our life as we live it.

The BeliefCloset Process™ is an easy-to-master guided process that enables you to examine the beliefs you inherited or took on in the past, test them for viability today, and discard the ones that don’t work anymore and replace them with beliefs that will serve you better. Our old limiting beliefs are like outfits you once wore, but have outgrown. It’s time for a makeover!

Lion teaches this potent methodology to coaches and therapists worldwide. Reports of profound changes in the psyches and lives of clients continue to pour in.

More information is available on his websites: BeliefCloset.com and EverydayAwakening.com.

Lion’s Coaching Suggestion

Lion suggests that you begin examining the hidden and transparent beliefs that are running your life.

Ask yourself, “What do I believe about ____________? “  Spend a few minutes writing down your beliefs about each of the following topics:

  • Myself
  • My body
  • My health
  • My work
  • My sexuality
  • My abilities
  • My limitations
  • My attitudes
  • My family
  • My relationships
  • My soul, spirit or spiritual self
  • Money & Finances
  • God/Spirit/Source
  • The world
  • Good & Evil
  • Life & Death
  • Truth
  • The past
  • The future
  • My beliefs

2.  Circle the beliefs that you believe may be behind the difficulties in your life.

3.  For the circled beliefs, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Has this belief been beneficial or detrimental to me in my life?
  • Was this belief indoctrinated into me?  If so, by whom?  Did I ever consciously choose to believe it?   If so, when?   Why did I do so?
  • What has been the advantage of having this belief?  How has it served me in my life?  What did I get or gain by having this belief?  What did I avoid by having this belief?
  • Who would I be without this belief?
  • What would I prefer to believe instead?

4.  Download the free BeliefCloset Jump-Start Kit by signing up on www.BeliefCloset.com/jsk1.  Listen to the BeliefCloset Audio Guide, which will take you through the BeliefCloset Process so you can eliminate and replace three of your limiting or negative beliefs that you don’t want anymore.

Lion’s Quote for the Day

“We are as gods.  So we might as well get good at it.” ~Stewart Brand, founder of the Whole Earth Catalog
