			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Those of you who know me, or who have spent any time reading my website or listening to my radio show, know that I am all about purpose and calling. It’s a subject that has fascinated and sometimes tormented me since high school.</p>
<p><a href="http://womenfindpurpose.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/torah.jpg"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-3734" title="torah" src="http://womenfindpurpose.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/torah.jpg" alt="" width="266" height="400" /></a>Check this out from the Old and New Testaments:</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em>“Hear, O Israel:  The Lord our God is one.<br />
<strong>Love the Lord your God with all your heart<br />
and with all</strong> <strong>your soul and with all your strength.”</strong></em><br />
[Deuteronomy 6:4-5]</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em> “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment<br />
in the Law?” Jesus answered,<br />

<p><em>Then Jesus came to them [the eleven disciples] and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore <strong>go and make disciples</strong> of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”</em>  [Matthew 28:18-20]</p>
<p>I had to smile when our pastor summed up our collective purpose as:</p>
<p style="padding-left: 60px;">1)      Love God.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 60px;">2)      Love Others.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 60px;">3)      Make Disciples.</p>
<p>There you have it. How easy is that?? So much angst over what we’re supposed to do with our lives and, voila, six simple words say it all..  Hmmm….<em>simple?</em></p>
<p>Maybe not.</p>
<p><em>How</em> do we love the Lord our God with all our heart and with all our soul and with all our strength and with all our mind?  <em>How do we live for the Lord full-time?</em></p>
<p><strong>Loving God with all my heart</strong> means wanting to be in full relationship with Him. Not part-time. <em>Full</em>-time. It means being eager to share my joys, my challenges, my ups, my downs, with my Lord and Savior. It means keeping our relationship fresh and vibrant and keeping our relationship my top priority. It means allowing God’s love and compassion to flow through me to others.</p>
<p><strong>Loving God with all my soul </strong>means continually listening to God’s voice. It means wanting my purpose to be His purpose—wanting His plan to be my plan. It means connecting through my soul to my Source on a regular basis to discern God’s will for my life.</p>
<p><strong>Loving God with all my mind </strong>means loving God consciously, intentionally, with full and continual awareness. It means seeking to conform my thoughts to God’s thoughts and ridding my mind of all negativity:</p>
<p><em>“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”  </em>[Philippians 4:7-9]</p>
<p><strong>Loving God with all my strength </strong>means pouring every ounce of energy into my relationship with God. It means loving God with my whole being, not merely with bits and pieces of who I am or who I think I am.</p>

<p>Take a moment to ask yourself: Are you living for God (that is, are you living out your God-given purpose) part-time or full-time?</p>
<p>If you want to get crystal clear on whom to serve and how to serve them (part of your unique/particular/specific call), focus  first on getting to know the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind. Live your corporate/collective/general call with joy and confidence.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Last week I led a group of coaches in a discussion of “How to Build a Profitable, Purpose-Guided Business.” Not surprisingly, we focused on the topic, “Choosing Your Target Market.”</p>
<p>I know many service-based business owners who agonize over this decision. I did too, at first. &#8220;Just choose three to five groups of people you like to work with,&#8221; I was advised. Hence, my first mega-website was divided into three major categories &#8212; Coaching for Women, Coaching for Lawyers, and Coaching for Clergy. (My husband joked that I included everybody but male engineers.)</p>
<p>NOT a good idea! When you&#8217;re “targeting” more than one group, you’re spreading your resources too thin. Your time, your energy, your hard-earned dollars, your focus. You’ll confuse and maybe even <em>scare away</em> the people who are meant to work with you! My current business mentors have ingrained in me the mantra, “A confused mind always says no.&#8221;</p>
<p>Fo&#8217; sho.</p>
<p>[<a href="http://womenfindpurpose.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/iStock_000017605029XSmall.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-3705 alignright" title="iStock_000017605029XSmall" src="http://womenfindpurpose.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/iStock_000017605029XSmall.jpg" alt="" width="278" height="277" /></a>Take the pressure off. If you make a decision, try it on for size; and if your target market is not a good fit, guess what . . . <em>you can change!</em> Just don’t invest a fortune in marketing materials or websites until you’ll pretty darn sure you’re going to stick with that particular group for a while. And guess what else. Declaring a target market doesn’t mean you can’t work with somebody who doesn't fit that particular profile--as long as you resonate with each other and it’s a good fit for both of you.  Feelin' the freedom?]</p>
<p>So, besides <em>liking</em> the people you intend to serve, what are some other factors to consider when identifying your target market? Try these:</p>
<ul>
<li>Do they have specific problems you can help them solve?</li>
<li>Are they likely to pay someone to help solve their problems?</li>
<li>Are they motivated and passionate?</li>
<li>Do they gather in places where you can easily find them?</li>
<li>Can you relate to them . . . really well?</li>
</ul>
<p>If several groups come to mind when using those criteria, ask yourself the killer question: <strong>Who Needs You Most?</strong> There’s only so much “you” to go around!</p>

<p>If you’ve ever felt the fury of a hurricane, you must find it hard to believe that the presence of a butterfly flapping its wings could have led to its creation. Regardless of whether this “chaos theory” is in fact true, the concept that small events can have large, widespread consequences has become uber-popular in our culture.</p>
<p>In my bathroom hangs an Anne Geddes print of a father’s hands cradling a tiny baby. The quote above the image is one of my favorites: “We can do no great things – only small things with great love.&#8221; <em>~Mother Teresa</em></p>
<p>Apply the butterfly effect to those same “small things done with great love,” and the consequences can be felt around the globe!</p>
<p>You might be sitting at your computer day after day wondering if your hard work is effecting any positive change whatsoever.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As soon as I finish writing this blog post (and mopping the kitchen floor), I head out to Seneca, South Carolina to celebrate the life of my cousin’s husband, Alan Gates, who died unexpectedly and well before his time.  I anticipate a beautiful tribute to an accomplished, caring, committed pilot and entrepreneur who served his country, family, community, and friends with conviction, passion,  and pride.</p>
<p>When I first start working with clients on discerning their life purpose, two questions I ask them to consider are (1) what legacy do you wish to leave, and (2) what message do you want your obituary or epitaph to convey.  Another perspective is….</p>
<p>What will The Hyphen between your date of birth and date of death represent? A life of meaning, joy, focus, service, and passion?</p>
<p>For me to answer such questions, it helps to consider the legacy of my parents who died in 1999. My mother taught me to laugh, create, love animals, and appreciate the wonder and beauty of nature.  My father instilled in me a deep desire to know God; to love my family; to serve my fellow man with deep humility; to treat all people with utmost respect; and to press forward against all odds (son of a donkey farmer, Dad rose to the ranks of Commodore of the U.S. Navy’s Service Force Sixth Fleet).</p>

<p>What legacy do I wish to pass on to my daughters?  What do I want my life to stand for?</p>
<p>I’ll share the answers with you as long as you promise you’ll write out your own answers over the next 24 hours.  Deal?</p>
<p>When people gather to celebrate the life of Jory Hingson Fisher…when my children reflect on the essence of their mom…, I want them to remember me as a person who:</p>
<p>1.       Loved God and family with her whole heart and soul and mind and strength</p>
<p>2.       Served her fellow man with deep humility and who treated all persons with utmost respect</p>
<p>3.       Laughed and created and loved animals and appreciated the wonder and beauty of nature</p>
<p>4.       Pressed forward even when challenges seemed insurmountable</p>
<p>5.       Strove to become a good and faithful servant—to become the person God intended her to be</p>
<p>6.       Knew her God-given purpose and lived it with conviction, clarity, commitment, passion, and joy</p>
<p>7.       Experienced heaven on earth because of her relationship  with Jesus, her Good Shepherd, who welcomes her graciously into His fold</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Know Your Purpose!</strong></p>
<p>In a perfect world, we’d  have no reason to doubt. Whatever claims were made, whatever promises  were given, we’d believe them with the trust and expectancy of a small,  wide-eyed child.</p>
<p>But it’s a fallen world.  A  broken world.  And public trust in business is at an all-time low.  So  says R. Edward Freeman, a business ethics professor at the Darden School  of the University of Virginia. Click on the arrow below to listen to  his interview of John Mackey, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Whole Foods  Market.</p>
<p>Mr. Mackey speaks with conviction. He speaks from the heart.</p>
<p>Businesses <em>must</em> be  more than profit machines, he asserts.  Public cynicism is deep because  business owners’ self-interest is high. Too high. Mr. Mackey has one  solution.</p>
<p>Purpose.</p>
<p>Business owners must  discover the purpose of their business, communicate that purpose, and  live up to that purpose. They must believe it, live it, and design their  company culture around it. They must examine how they serve society,  and they must strive to “be good.”  “You can’t be good,” he says, “if  you’re only in it for yourself.”</p>
<p>What&#8217;s the purpose of <em>your</em> business?  Do you strive to serve others with your heart and soul and  mind?  Do you wake up in the morning and think, “How much money can I  make before sundown?” Or do you wake up and ask yourself first, “Whom  can I help? How can I make a difference in somebody’s life today?”</p>
<p>Of course one purpose—or  goal—of business must be to maximize profit or we wouldn’t stay solvent.  But that’s not a particularly “noble” purpose, says Mr. Mackey.  What  is the <em>noble</em> purpose…the higher purpose…of your business?  What do you<em> </em>do to “be good”?</p>
<p>Have you thought about it?</p>
<p>I help my clients discern their purpose with a high degree of specificity.  They discover who they are at their core (their<strong> essence</strong>), what transformational process they do over and over again to effect positive change in the lives of others (their<strong> blessing</strong>), the change they’re meant to create in the world (their <strong>mission</strong>), and the wisdom they’re meant to bring to others (their <strong>message</strong>).</p>
<p>What are the essence,  blessing, mission, and message of your life &#8212; and of your business? If  you’re in the business of helping others, to be in full integrity, the  purpose of your business must be directly related to the purpose of your  life. Do you know your life purpose…with specificity? Do you know the  purpose of your business?</p>
<p>I’m not talkin’ the  20-minute assessment kind of know-your-purpose. I mean the soul-level,  God-calling, full-out passion &amp; perseverance kind of purpose.</p>
<p>Know the purpose of your life.  Know the purpose of your business.</p>
<p>If we discover why we’re here and whom we’re meant to serve…</p>
<p>If we put service ahead of self-interest…</p>
<p>If we ardently strive to “do good&#8221; and fulfill our noble purpose&#8230;</p>
<p>Then public trust will be restored.</p>
<p>And we as business owners will be successful.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I resisted for the longest  time. Why would a mentor/coach need a mentor/coach? We’re fully trained  in visioning and setting goals and living purposefully. Along with a  healthy dose of motivation and inspiration, that should be enough,  right?</p>
<p>Not!</p>
<p>Doctors need doctors.  Counselors need counselors. Pastors need pastors. Mentors need mentors.  And coaches need coaches. If we want to make quantum leaps in our own  lives so we can help our clients make quantum leaps in theirs, then<em> </em>we need to continue our <em>own</em> education and training through classes and programs. We need to belong  to groups of passionate, purposeful, trustworthy men and women who will  encourage us on our journey. And we need to<em> </em>invest in mentor-coaches who will guide us, instruct us, and hold us accountable to our articulated goals and dreams.</p>
<p>I have intentionally and  prayerfully surrounded myself with a brilliant team of guides.   Elizabeth Marshall, Tim Kelley, Paige Stapleton, and Brian Stark are my  divinely inspired whip-crackin’ angels of purpose, passion, and  perseverance. They hold me to an even higher standard than I would hold  for myself so that I may more effectively get my message and work into  the world <em>and</em> help my clients (and colleagues, friends, and family members) do the same.</p>
<p>Whatever your profession or  ministry, take a moment to ask yourself if you’re accomplishing  everything you’re meant to accomplish on your earthly journey and if  you’ve fully stepped into the person you’re meant to be. If you have,  tell me your secret!  If you haven’t, I suggest you:</p>
<ul>
<li> Enroll in continuing education programs related to your field and interests</li>
<li> Join or form a group of colleagues who will help you achieve your goals</li>
<li> Interview and hire a mentor/coach who will guide, instruct, and inspire you</li>
<li> Reflect on this Buddhist Proverb:<em> &#8220;When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.&#8221; </em></li>
</ul>
<p>May the Lord inform your decision and may your ego not stand in your way.</p>
